Split AC Maintenance Training to Improve Engineering Skills and Job Opportunities for SMAN16 Batam Students as a Challenge for the Industrial World in Batam City

Abstract


Education in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 requires strengthening students' technical skills to be ready to face the world of work challenges. However, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at the Senior High School (SMA) level is still predominantly theoretical and not optimal in industry-based practices. This service activity aims to improve the technical skills of students of SMAN 16 Batam through training on maintenance and cleaning of Split AC systems as an effort to bridge the gap between education and local industry needs. The implementation method includes theoretical training, hands-on practice, simulation of the world of work, and evaluation with pre-test and post-test methods. Activities involved students, accompanying teachers, and university students in an integrated collaborative scheme. The results showed an average increase in student technical competence of 38.5%, and 80% of participants were declared competent in Split AC maintenance practices. Participant feedback also showed that the training was relevant, applicable, and improved students' work readiness. This activity is a model of collaboration between universities and schools in supporting the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum and strengthening industry-based education
