Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to obtain empirical evidence on the impact of the K-W-L strategy on students’ reading comprehension. The research employed a quasi-experimental design intended to obtain the requisite empirical proof. The population was the students of the eighth grade students of MTs. Daarul Hikmah, Pamulang. To obtain this aim, the research consisted of 44 students selected by purposive sampling. They divided trough two groups, experimental and controlled group. As the system design, the experimental group was taught reading by K-W-L strategy as the treatment while another group was not given the treatment.  The test was performed at the start and end of treatment that called by pre-test and post-test. Moreover, the t-test result of the gained score study, created from the different between pre-test and post-test, showed that the mean of experimental group score was higher than the controlled group. The score difference was 7.27 points. In addition, the value (2-tailed) or p was lower than alpha, p < 0.05. This means that the use of the K_W-L strategy was successful in improving the reading comprehension of Descriptive text by the eighth grade students of MTs Daarul Hikmah, Pamulang.
