Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain a description of the attitudes of children with emotional and behavioral disorders towards assertive behavior. Children with emotional and behavioral disorders have complex characteristics and often their behavior characteristics are also carried out by other children of the same age, such as moving a lot, disturbing playmates, fighting behavior, and sometimes aloof behavior. Children with emotional and behavioral disorders can be found in various children's communities, such as play groups, elementary schools, and play environments. The results of a survey of 696 elementary school students from four provinces in Indonesia with an average report card score of less than 6.0, it was stated that 33% experienced emotional and behavioral disorders. For parents and teachers in general, these behaviors are considered normal and only need to be labeled naughty or rebellious, and need to warn their peers to be careful and even stay away from them. Sometimes children just act like they are involved in an activity for no good reason. Children are objects that are vulnerable to pressure and the desire of friends or people around them to behave not according to personal desires. Children who behave in this way are actually capable of refusing. However, the children chose not to refuse, in other words, they did not want to act assertively.
